KANCHI COTTON PATTERN KURTA

This fabric is woven on a hand loom in fine cotton in different designs by the weavers of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Kanchipuram, famous for its exquisite handwoven silk sarees, also produces a cotton hand spun variety that has grace and elegance in its simplicity. Often the patterns and designs in the Kanchipuram weaves are inspired by images and scriptures of South Indian temples or of natural features like leaves, birds and animals. Double-shading is also a common feature attained using a different colour for the warp and the weft. As in most hand looms, the fabric softens as well as the weave tightens with each wash and thus becoming strong and soft.
